At Night

[Nicodemus] came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God.” John 3:2

What deep God-questions keep you up at night?

Thoughts that interrupt my rest are usually those problems that I just can’t seem to resolve. Perhaps these problems are not mine to resolve…on my own and in my own time.

Nicodemus comes to Jesus, at night, with deep questions and wondering about what Jesus is up to and what that has to do with God.

Jesus, God’s son, can do great things, but He was not apart from the presence of God. He embodied the presence of God. He was and is God at work in the world.

Jesus goes on to teach Nicodemus about who God is and what God is up to.

God loves the world. God saves the world. And God does so through the Son. It’s all about love.

Apart from God, you and I can do nothing. What we do without love is wasting our time.

Let us rest better tonight trusting that God shall never depart from us.
