The eggs have been found, the chocolate bunnies eaten and all that plastic “grass” has been vacuumed up. While others are ready to move on from the Easter celebration, we celebrate still. After the Resurrection, Jesus continued to walk the earth, eating, drinking, healing and teaching before he ascended into heaven. The Easter season will continue as we celebrate the Ascension forty days after Easter until Pentecost. On the fiftieth day after the Resurrection, we will remember the coming of the Holy Spirit and look for it to blow among us again.
As you come to worship, you will see that the altar has moved closer, a visible reminder that at the crucifixion the curtain in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, eliminating any barriers that come between the holy place of God and the people, and that in the Resurrection, Christ is among us still.
In our Scripture readings, we will hear from the Gospel according to Matthew and the Acts of the Apostles about those who were commissioned to share the Good News, both near and far. Then we will move into Romans as we hear about how the Good News has power to save and bring us to new life.
We will gather around the table, knowing that Christ is truly present among us, in the bread and the wine, feeding, filling and sustaining us. Come, join us as we worship the Risen Lord.
Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
