Ripple Effects

“And you became imitators of us and of the Lord…” 1 Thessalonians 1:6a

Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica with deep gratitude that the expression of their faith in Christ is exemplary. Because they have imitated faith in the way that Paul modeled and imitated Christ, they have inspired so many others in their own faith.

A good friend of mine, Dawn Trautman, is a life coach and public figure, recently shared a short video clip on how humans almost universally underestimate the impact simple acts of kindness have on the well-being of both the receiver and the giver. Something like a simple compliment can make all the difference. She encourages her listeners to “go ahead and strengthen those relationships. Go ahead and tighten up that fabric between you and the people around you.”

Our mission as followers of Christ is to share God’s love with others through words and actions.

Imitating Jesus and even others who have modeled a living faith to us will have a lasting impact. The Spirit has the power to stir up long-lasting ripple effects through those acts more than we can image!

As a spiritual practice this week and in the spirit of the October worship theme Letters, write a letter to someone whose Christ-like acts of love had an impact on you OR write a letter to someone and offer them affirmation and encouragement, a way to share God’s love!

Trust that the Holy Spirit will create ripple effects with your acts of kindness!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Wendy Kalan
