We practice care and compassion.

Our last reflection is from Karen Zotz. You can often find Karen ushering with her husband John.

What does the Bible say about caring and compassion?

  • Psalm 103:4: The Lord who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.

  • Psalm 103:8: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love.

  • Matthew 9:36: When he saw the crowd He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

  • Romans 9:15: God says to Moses: I will have mercy on whom I have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.

  • Colossians 3:12: Therefore, as God’s chosen people holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

How can we practice compassion and caring in everyday life?

  • Sharing your Christmas gifts with others identified on the Risen Lord Christmas tree.

  • Hosting a family that has lost their home in the tornado while they rebuild.

  • Praying for and visiting the sick and the infirmed.

  • Providing food to families with an ill family member.

  • Providing transportation to a person needing to visit the doctor or shop for groceries, etc..

  • Donating to your favorite charity.

  • Being patient with your spouse, children and others.

  • Being a good neighbor during flooding to help sandbag a home and later clean up.

  • Pulling your colleague out of snow drift and following them to work.

  • Giving your time at the food pantry while helping participants learn how to use available food items.

  • Contributing to Risen Lord’s food and paper products for the food pantry.

There are so many ways that we do this every day and it is a great way to share God's love through words and actions.
